We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Geoethics Working Group (GWG) of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). Silvia Peppoloni will serve as Chair. The Working Group includes David Crookall, Giuseppe Di Capua, Jens Klump, and Ioanna Triantafyllou.

The International Association for Promoting Geoethics (IAPG), the Commission on Geoethics of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS-CG), and the Chair on Geoethics of the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH-CG) are co-sponsoring three events on geoethics at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2026 (EGU26)

The Journal of Geoethics and Social Geoscience (JGSG) published two new open access articles in the Special Issue "Women in Geosciences", edited by Daniela Di Bucci, Luisa Sabato and Martina Zucchi.

This session aims to explore, through case studies and discussion, how geoethics can shape responsible behaviors and policies in geosciences. We welcome theoretical, methodological, and applied contributions addressing a broad range of topics related to geoethics and social geosciences

A workshop entitled "The Practice of Geoethics and Its Importance in the Geosciences" is currently being held in Lima, Peru.

Vincent Cronin (IAPG Continental Coordinator for North America) will deliver an online invited talk titled "Applied Ethics Resources for Geoscience Students and Professionals" at the III Meeting of the Ethics Committee in Scientific Research, titled "Getting to Know CEINCI", on 21 November 2025. This event will take place at the Aula Máxima de Ciencias (Auditorium), located on the main campus of Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Silvia Peppoloni will deliver an invited talk (in Italian) titled "La geoetica come fondamento per affrontare le responsabilità etiche dei geologi in un mondo in trasformazione" (Geoethics as a foundation for addressing the ethical responsibilities of geologists in a transforming world) in Genoa, Italy, on 25 November 2025.

This book explores diverse perspectives and practices in geoethics, offering a comprehensive overview of how ethical considerations are being integrated into the geosciences across disciplines and regions. It draws from the session “Geoethics at the Heart of All Geoscience: Serving the Public Good” held at the 37th International Geological Congress (IGC) in Busan, Republic of Korea.

Silvia Peppoloni (IAPG President, Chair of the IUGS Commission on Geoethics, and Chairholder of the CIPSH Chair on Geoethics) will deliver a keynote speech titled "Geoethics as a Foundation for Navigating the Ethical Responsibilities of Geologists in a Changing Age", under the theme "The Role of the Geologist in the 21st Century: Innovation, Technology, and New Opportunities", on 5 November 2025.

This conference is a new hybrid event aimed at researchers, industry professionals, students, policy makers, and all those with an interest in responsible innovation. The meeting will explore how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are transforming the geosciences, while also addressing the critical ethical, educational, and policy challenges that come with these technologies.

This report presents recommendations for the ethical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the geosciences. It has been prepared by the Task Group on AI Ethics in Geosciences under the Commission on Geoethics of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

The IAPG – International Association for Promoting Geoethics is proud to contribute to the 11th International Conference of the African Association of Women in Geosciences (CAAWG11) "Geosciences & the Future of Africa - Emerging technologies, innovations and inclusive growth" that will be held in Kampala, Uganda, from 1 to 5 October 2025.

We invite contributions that critically reflect on how geoethics and social geosciences can inform and improve the practice, governance, and societal impact of geosciences in Africa.

Andean Geology invites submissions for a forthcoming special issue on geoethics, aimed at fostering critical reflection on the ethical dimensions of the geosciences in Chile and Latin America.
