Vincent S. Cronin (IAPG Continental Coordinator for North America) will deliver an invited talk entitled "Some Components of Practical Geoethics" at the Lunch & Earn initiative of the AIPG - American Institute of Professional Geologists, the largest geosciences association devoted to ethical and professional practices in the U.S.

Description: Practicing geoscientists and students entering the field need guidance toward functional literacy in geoethics — the applied ethics of professional geoscience. In developing an online geoethics primer to meet this need, it became clear that the focus must extend beyond codes of professional practice alone. This webinar introduces the broader landscape underlying the primer: a coherent, non-sectarian moral system (common morality); science ethics; the paramount obligations of professional geoscientists; and the discipline-specific ethics codes relevant to each geoscientist. Participants will leave with access to the draft primer and its ethics glossary. You are invited to help shape its final content and form.
Bio: Vincent S. Cronin is the North American Coordinator of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics. He is an emeritus professor of geoscience, having taught for 34 years at two research universities. He has a broad academic background in geology and geophysics and worked as an engineering geologist with Jim Slosson and associates. He is also Editor of the 11th-13th editions of the AGI/NAGT Laboratory Manual in Physical Geology. He received AIPG's Ben Parker Medal in 2023.
