We wish to congratulate Silvia Peppoloni on receiving the Distinguished Service Award 2026 from the Geological Society of London (GSL).

Established in 1998, the GSL Distinguished Service Award recognises an individual who has made significant contributions to geoscience and the geoscience community by virtue of their professional, administrative, organisational or promotional activities.

Silvia Peppoloni has made an extraordinary and deeply transformative contribution to the geoscience community, emerging as a leading international figure in the advancement and promotion of geoethics. As Founder, former Secretary General, and current President of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics, she has provided authoritative leadership in expanding international networks and partnerships, fostering dialogue across disciplines, cultures, and generations. Her dedication has led to the establishment of structures, initiatives, and scholarly tools that have firmly positioned geoethics as a recognized and essential pillar of the global geoscientific discourse.

In addition to her intellectual and organizational achievements, she is distinguished by her strong ethical coherence and commitment to values, consistently advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. She has been a steadfast advocate for early-career researchers and a driving force in strengthening a shared sense of responsibility across the scientific community.

By uniting strategic vision with tangible action, and academic excellence with public engagement, she has broadened the global reach of the geosciences, enhancing their visibility, societal relevance, and cultural legacy. Her work will leave an enduring impact, providing new perspectives and a robust ethical foundation for the future of the field.
